Start with a task you can describe
Choose a repeated task with a clear beginning, an identifiable input and an output someone can review. Preparing a first draft of a meeting summary is easier to scope than asking AI to manage all company operations.
Map what happens today
Write down the information used, the tools involved, who makes decisions and what happens when something is missing. The map often reveals process gaps that should be resolved before adding automation.
Keep a person responsible
Decide who checks the output and which actions need approval. A draft can be useful without being sent automatically. Begin with a level of autonomy that matches the consequences of a mistake.
Test against a baseline
Record how the task currently performs: time, corrections, missed steps or another useful measure. Try the proposed workflow on representative examples, including awkward cases, and compare the results.
Expand from evidence
Use what the test teaches you to refine the scope. A working, reviewed workflow gives you a firmer basis for the next implementation than a long list of disconnected experiments.
